Wrestlers Advance To State Finals with Regional Win
Posted on 02/17/2025
The Freeland Wrestling Team has crushed it once again, securing another Regional Title! The Falcons came out swinging, dominating North Branch High School with an explosive 68-6 victory, and then battling it out against Gaylord High School in a thrilling regional championship match. Freeland finished strong with a 40-28 win, marking their 4th trip to the State tournament and their second consecutive appearance!
Last season, the Falcons made an unforgettable run, finishing as runners-up to the 16-time State Champions, Lowell High School. This year, they’re more determined than ever to make a serious push for the title!
But the road ahead is going to be tough. With powerhouses like Lowell, the undefeated Three Rivers, and the undefeated Linden standing in their way, the competition is fierce. However, these Falcons are fueled by hard work, unwavering dedication, and the burning desire to be the best. They’ve come so far, and they’re not stopping now.
The State Finals kick off next Friday, 2/21/25, at 6:45 PM – and we need to show these warriors our full support! Let’s pack the stands and cheer them on as they make their shot at the title. Go Falcons!!

Freeland High School Wins District Championship!
Congratulations to the Freeland High School Wrestling Team for an outstanding performance as they captured the District Championship! In an epic showdown, the Falcons dominated Bay City Central with an impressive 83-0 victory, followed by a thrilling win against John Glenn, 31-28.
The match against John Glenn was an absolute battle, with both teams recognized as top contenders in the state. Last season, Freeland finished as the State Runner-Up, and they are determined to earn another shot at the State Championship this year.
The showdown with John Glenn saw both teams win seven matches apiece, but the difference was made in the pin count. Freeland only allowed one pin while John Glenn gave up two pins, making each match point crucial to the victory. Every wrestler contributed to this amazing team effort, showcasing their heart and determination.
A special shout-out to our Wrestler of the Night, Nolan Cunningham, who sealed the victory by defeating his John Glenn opponent with an impressive 14-3 score. Also deserving of recognition is the Heart Award winner, Colton Cunningham, who battled fiercely and refused to be pinned by John Glenn’s top wrestler.
This victory is the result of all the hard work, dedication, and sweat that the team has put in, and it is well deserved.
Our next competition is the Team Regional Finals, held at Freeland High School on Wednesday, February 12th, at 5:30 PM. The matchups will be Freeland vs. North Branch and Petoskey vs. Gaylord.
Come out and support your Falcon wrestlers as they continue their quest for victory. They truly appreciate your support!
Go Falcons!
