Wrestlers Split Team and Compete in 2 Invitationals

Another outstanding weekend of wrestling for our Freeland High School Wrestlers. The Freeland Wrestling Team split the team and competed in two separate tournaments this past weekend.
The Freeland Varsity White Team finished in 2nd Place out of 21 Teams at the New Lothrop Hall of Fame Invitational. Wrestler of the Day was Michael Wilson who came into the tournament 4th and wrestled all the way to a 1st Place Finish. Great Work Michael!! Place Winners were as follows…

We have some exciting news to share from the 2025 Saginaw County Invitational, where the Freeland Wrestling Team made history by capturing their first-ever Saginaw County Wrestling Championship!
Ranked 3rd in the state and coming off a runner-up finish at last year’s MHSAA Championships, Freeland dominated the tournament, placing 15 wrestlers in the top 5 and outscoring runner-up Birch Run by more than 50 points.

132 lbs: Nolan Cunningham
138 lbs: Malachai Hill (Coach’s Award Winner)
150 lbs: Buddy Leonard (Wrestler of the Day – won all matches by technical fall or pin)
165 lbs: Fabian Facundo
215 lbs: Brigham Smith

113 lbs: Easton Rosebush
285 lbs: Garrett Kain (Quickest Pin of the day in just 26 seconds)

The Freeland High School Wrestling team had an impressive performance on Wednesday night, winning both of their matches. They dominated Garber High School with a 75-6 victory and also triumphed over their rivals, Frankenmuth High School, with a score of 51-25. Several Freeland wrestlers displayed their skills by pinning their opponents in under a minute, with the fastest pin of the night coming from Zack Clark, who took only 33 seconds to pin his Frankenmuth opponent—what an amazing feat!
The wrestler of the night award went to Colin Earls, who earned two victories, including a pin against his Frankenmuth opponent. Great job, Colin! A big shout-out to Coach Townsend for his unwavering support, which was a huge boost to the team. His presence provided a tremendous boost to both the wrestlers and the parents. Thank you, Coach Townsend! Additionally, a big thank you to Coach Wheeler for helping manage the scoreboard and ensuring everything ran smoothly. Great team effort all around!

Wrestlers Travel to Brighton Tournament

Freeland had an impressive showing at one of the state's toughest team tournaments this weekend, finishing as runners-up to Brighton High School, currently ranked number 2 in Division 1. They showcased their strength by defeating several strong teams, including Napoleon (64-12), Jackson Northwest (57-14), Grand Ledge (36-31), and Algonac, who is ranked number 3 in Division 3 (46-31).
With their eyes set on returning to the MHSAA state finals, where they were Division 2 state runners-up last season, Freeland is on a mission to continue their winning ways. They will face off against their rivals, Frankenmuth and Garber, this Wednesday at home. The action begins at 5:30 p.m. – come out and support the team!

The Freeland wrestling team competed in their first home dual last night. They defeated Dow HS 67-12 and Central Montcalm HS 52-24. The wrestling team is currently ranked 3rd in the State for Division 2. They are 4-0 for the season.

Wrestling Captures Richmond Invitational Title

The Freeland wrestling team participated in a 10 team tournament this weekend at Richmond High School. Freeland was crowned the champion. Freeland had outstanding performances from all our wrestlers. Maddox Wilson 3rd, Bryson Lynch 2nd, Nolan Cunningham 2nd, Colton Cunningham 2nd, Garrett Kain 2nd, Michael Wilson 2nd, Buddy Leonard 1st, Malachi Hill 1st, Brayden Petre 1st, and Easton Rosebush 1st. Please come out and support your wrestling team this Wednesday at Freeland High School. Wrestling starts at 6:00pm. Go Falcons!
