Freshmen Falcons Claim a Win in the Season Finale.

The Freshmen Falcons traveled to Laingsburg last Thursday for their season finale.  The team was scheduled to play Cadillac but after getting a call and Cadillac cancelling, the Falcons found a new game with the JV Team from Laingsburg.  The Falcons would take the hour and 15-minute bus ride south and snag a 12-7 victory to finish the season with a winning record of 5-4.

Laingsburg would start off the scoring by taking the opening kickoff back for a touchdown, they would add the extra point and the Falcons were down 7-0 early.  The game which was played in the rain from start to finish would be a back-and-forth contest for most of the 1st quarter.  The Falcons would then put together a drive in the 2nd quarter that would eat up just over 6:00 minutes off the clock and Ryan Watkins would find the endzone on a 3-yard run.  The try for 2 was no good due to a fumbled snap.  The Falcons trailed going into the half 7-6.

The Falcons first drive of the 2nd half would stall, and they would have to punt.  The Falcon Defensive was up to the task on this night denying the Wildcats on each of their drives in the 3rd quarter.  The Falcons would get the ball at the start of the fourth quarter and would go a 15 play 8 minute and 38 second drive to score the go-ahead touchdown.  Ryan Watkins would scamper 13 yards for the score, the try for 2 was unsuccessful.  Falcons led 12-7 with 3:22 on the clock.  Laingsburg would make it interesting and drive the length of the field, but a Nico Goodenough interception would end that threat.  Goodenough’s second interception of the game.  The Falcons would take a knee on the final play of the game and claim the victory 12-7.

The Falcon Defense was led by Carter Williamson who recorded 7 tackles, Ryan Watkins and Jace Lindauer would each have 6 tackles on the night.  Nico Goodenough had 2 interceptions and 3 tackles.  Evan Leahy also had two huge pass break ups in the Wildcats final drive.

Offensively the Falcons ground game was led by Ryan Watkins who had 12 carries for 62 yards, Goodenough would have 12 carries for 25 yards and Nolan Cunningham would have 8 carries for 24 yards mostly on the game winning drive.  Colton Cunningham who played quarterback in this game (normally a left guard) played exceptionally well for never playing quarterback before.

It was a Great Team win for the Freshman Falcons who ended the season with a winning record at 5-4 against some tough competition.
