The Freshmen Falcons traveled to Ithaca on Thursday September 15 th to play the JV
Yellowjackets and were victorious 26-20. The Falcons would use a ball control offense to fend
off the Yellowjackets. The offensive line of Bryson Lynch, Liam Rump, Zach Clark, Jake
Steffin, Mason Kozumplik, Tucker Hileman, and Ross Farrell would lead the way. Freeland
would get the ball first and use over 9 minutes off the clock before Nick Haas would rush in
from 1 yard for a touchdown; the 2-point conversion failed making it 6-0 Falcons. Ithaca would
waste no time in tying the score as they would run the ensuing kickoff back for a touchdown and
their 2-point try was unsuccessful making it 6-6. The Falcon offense would put together another
impressive drive on their 2 nd possession of the game capped off by a 2-yard run by Kellen East,
he would also add the 2-point conversion making it 14-6 Falcons. The Falcons would strike one
more time before the half was over, this time through the air when Max Heyn connected with
Jake Clawson for a 44-yard pitch and catch, the 2-point conversion was unsuccessful giving the
Falcons a 20-6 halftime lead. In the 2 nd half the Yellowjackets would score at the 1:36 mark of
the 3 rd quarter to pull within a touchdown of the Falcons 20-14. The Falcon offense was not done
yet and would score on a 13-yard run by Haas, the 2-point try was no good and the score was 26-
14. The Yellowjacket offense would add another score at the 8:04 mark of the 4 th quarter to
make it 26-20. But the Freeland offense would run out the remaining time to hang on for the
victory.
The Falcon offense would have the ball for over 39 minutes of the game and gained 359 yards in
total offense. The leading rusher for the Falcons was Kellen East who had 18 carries for 87
yards, he was followed by Nick Haas who had 14 carries for 59 yards. Quarterback Max Heyn
would be 6 of 9 passing for 164 yards. Heyn would spread the ball around to his receivers Nick
Haas, and Jake Clawson each had a catch. Tucker Hileman and Karson Worth would each have
2 catches.
The Falcons push their record to 3-0-1 on the season with the win and will play at Frankenmuth
on Thursday September 22 nd at 4:30pm.
